Teacher Spotlight December 2019

This month’s teacher spotlight is Chris Rocchio! Chris has been teaching for 10 years, which includes four years of volunteering as an English Literacy Specialist for the Peace Corps in Western Samoa. He is currently teaching fourth grade at Syracuse Arts Academy, and has been there for 5 years.

Chris gives credit to his entire family for inspiring him to become an educator. They taught him the importance of being a lifelong learner, and the desire to instill that in others. “I get to spend every day guiding students and watching them grow as learners and people. One of the most important aspects when teaching Math is to ensure the students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how they can demonstrate their understanding”

-- Chris

His nominator, having been very impressed by Chris, wrote, “He has gone above and beyond, spending lots of time collecting data and progress monitoring his students using not only test but creating exit tickets for each math lesson where students are required to write about mathematics, which is beautiful ...He is doing an Amazing job! Keep up the good work Chris!”

When he is not teaching Chris can be found spending time with his family, running, reading, and watching sports.

Well you have certainly impressed us Chris, and on behalf of the Utah State Board of Education, we would like to thank you for your outstanding contributions to mathematics education.
