This month, we are honored to recognize Rebecca Steele for our Teacher Spotlight! What an outstanding educator. Her nominator describes her as “the epitome of professionalism”.
Rebecca is in her 24th year of teaching mathematics. She describes her grandfather Verdell Hinton as her inspiration for becoming a teacher, “He was an elementary school teacher for his career and I wanted to be like him. When he retired he let me come with him to his classroom to clean out his belongings. He gifted me some of his
things with which I liked to play school and imagine I was the teacher, shaping minds and making a difference”.
In her spare time, Rebecca loves hiking, reading, going to plays and movies, going to new places, trying new things, learning new things, and meeting new people. On the most important thing about teaching: “Staying balanced. There are so many things that can stress you out, depress you, anger you, throw you off, and distract you from your best, purposeful, positive self that you must develop skills in identifying the necessary, eliminating the superfluous, doing something good for yourself everyday…”
